Life happens at lightning speed, and it is our responsibility to slow it down to a pace where we can make meaning of the seemingly pointless chaos that makes up our lifetime. During the COVID-19 lockdown, while trying to grasp how my life turned out the way it did, weeks on end of yearning, longing, and a health scare narrowed my priorities. Finally, I decided to pour out my heart on the pages of my diary, with one focus: to write what I would have loved to share with the one my heart yearns for.
Over the course of 2 years, I kept writing; sometimes it would flow for days, at other times, months would go by without any inspiration. As time went on, it became apparent that these were not just letters to my loved one, but they had taken on a form of life lessons, wisdom capsules that a predecessor compiles and hands over to a successor. The idea sat for another two years, remaining in the realm of thought, until the spark took hold, and the flame came alive, bursting into the physical realm.
This book, Letters to Chenani, is the culmination of a 7-year journey. The book travels back in time, -30 years to give root and credence to the letters, and provide a sure foundation to the counsel. This is represented on the book cover by the well-worn boots of the progenitor and the brand-new footwear of the offspring.
I am excited to share this collection of thoughts, experiences, lessons, and encouragement with you, hoping that you will be inspired to say what you need to your loved ones, whether they are still here or have transitioned to the great beyond.
Here's to your letters! I look forward to hearing your stories.
